Ambassador Sam Brownback Launches National Committee for Religious Freedom

January 14, 2022, Washington, D.C. – The Religious Freedom Institute (RFI) is pleased to host a launch event for the National Committee for Religious Freedom (NCRF), chaired by Ambassador Sam Brownback. The event will be livestreamed on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 12pm EST on RFI’s website, YouTube channel, and Facebook page.

NCRF is a non-partisan, non-profit organization established to defend religious freedom for all Americans and all their religious communities by supporting political candidates at the local, state, and national levels—regardless of party affiliation—who support the free exercise of religion.

“Religious freedom is a cornerstone of America’s constitutional democracy and was at the heart of America’s founding,” said Ambassador Brownback. “We are creating the National Committee for Religious Freedom to uphold this fundamental right, so revered by our Founders, by providing a critically needed political response to the ongoing attacks, in law and culture, on America’s First Freedom. ”

“We will support candidates of all faiths, or no faith, who support laws and policies that protect everyone’s First Amendment right to peacefully practice their faith according to the dictates of their conscience,” Ambassador Brownback continued.

NCRF’s advisory board includes: Jeff Ballabon, Founder and Director of the Jewish Legal Defense Fund; Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York; Tom Farr, President of the Religious Freedom Institute (RFI); Michael Farris, President & CEO of Alliance Defending Freedom; Mary Ann Glendon, Learned Hand Professor of Law at Harvard University and former U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See; Rabbi Yaakov Menken, Managing Director of the Coalition for Jewish Values; Paul Murray, Vice President, Religious Freedom Initiatives, The Global Peace Foundation; Penny Nance, CEO & President of Concerned Women for America; Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council; Jeff Sessions, former Attorney General of the United States & former U.S. Senator from Alabama; and Frank Wolf, former Member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“The National Committee for Religious Freedom will play a critically important role in the fight against the relentless assault on free exercise of religion in America today,” said RFI President Tom Farr. “RFI is delighted to host the launch event for NCRF, and I am honored to serve on its advisory board. RFI defends religious freedom for everyone, everywhere, and we look forward to supporting NCRF’s vital efforts to educate the American electorate on the meaning and value of religious freedom for all Americans, and to promote political candidates who stand up for free exercise equality.”
