Mehdi Mejri

Mehdi Mejri was born with a deep sense of purpose. He graduated from the University of Law in Tunis after which he served as a project coordinator for the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy in Tunisia. During his tenure with the center, Mehdi played a pivotal role in advancing religious freedom and promoting tolerance in Tunisia. He organized and facilitated numerous workshops that brought together religious leaders, activists, and individuals from diverse backgrounds. These workshops became platforms for open dialogue and understanding, transcending religious and cultural divides.

Intrigued by the complexities of global issues, Mehdi transitioned to the humanitarian sector. He served as an operations manager for Doctors Without Borders in war-torn regions across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. For eight years, he worked to coordinate relief efforts in some of the world's most challenging environments. With a desire to broaden his network and knowledge base, Mehdi eventually came to the United States. In 2018, he began an internship at RFI which he describes as a turning point in his life.

During his time with RFI, Mehdi delved into the complex and vital realm of religious freedom activism. This experience allowed him to engage deeply with colleagues from diverse religious backgrounds, providing a unique perspective on religious freedom issues in the MENA region. He witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by religious minorities, and the importance of fostering tolerance and understanding among different faith communities.

What sets Mehdi's connection with RFI apart is his enduring relationship with the organization. Several years after his internship, he maintains close ties with Jeremy Barker, his internship supervisor, and many others on the team. Today, Mehdi continues to pursue his goal of making a positive difference in his community with a profound commitment to advancing religious freedom and tolerance as cornerstones of human rights.
