At its commencement on May 13, The Catholic University of America (CUA) bestowed upon Kathryn Jean Lopez the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. A CUA alumnus who earned degrees in politics and philosophy, Lopez is a Senior Media Fellow at the Religious Freedom Institute and Senior Fellow at National Review Institute. She also serves as editor-at-large of National Review magazine.
Lopez writes and speaks about significant and challenging topics in the Catholic Church and the world, including bioethics, religion, feminism, education, and politics. Her work can be found widely in Catholic and secular outlets.
CUA conferred this honorary doctorate in recognition of Lopez’s “Christian witness in the public square and her commitment to the truth.”
