On November 2, 2018, Thomas Farr, President of the Religious Freedom Institute, gave a lecture at Providence Magazine’s Christianity and National Security Conference. Throughout the lecture, Farr provides a Christian theological case for religious freedom and its implications for American foreign policy. He does not contend for a Christian foreign policy but does express strong opposition to the aggressive secularism so widespread at the U.S. Department of State. According to Farr, this ideology has significantly handicapped American efforts to advance international religious freedom since IRFA was enacted in 1998.
Farr concludes his lecture by inviting American Christians to support religious freedom for everyone, in the U.S. and around the world, as an act of Christian faithfulness.
