Press Release: Religious Freedom Institute Moves D.C. Office to Capitol Hill

February 8, 2019, Washington, D.C. — The Religious Freedom Institute (RFI) has relocated its Washington, D.C. office to the heart of Capitol Hill. The new address is 316 Pennsylvania Ave, SE, Suite 501, Washington, D.C. 20003.

RFI commemorated its move to the historic National Capital Bank building on Pennsylvania Avenue with an open house Wednesday attended by 200 friends and colleagues from government, business, media, higher education, and the NGO community.

“Our new location represents RFI’s commitment to have an even greater impact for religious freedom in law, policy, and culture,” said Thomas Farr, President of RFI. “It also accommodates the needs of our growing staff as we work to advance RFI’s burgeoning research, education, and policy efforts,” Farr added.

Farr co-founded RFI with Kent Hill, Timothy Shah, and Byron Johnson in 2016. Initially operating out of Farr’s Georgetown University office at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs, RFI soon transitioned to a shared space at the Foundry in Georgetown, before moving to its own office suite on Capitol Hill last month.

“Capitol Hill is a hub of vibrant public deliberation and an ideal location for RFI’s expanding activities,” said Kent Hill, Executive Director of RFI.

RFI’s origin on the campus of Georgetown is fitting. In 2011, Farr launched and directed the Berkley Center’s Religious Freedom Project, with Shah serving as associate director. RFI continues to draw upon the wealth of scholarship and experience the Religious Freedom Project produced and to find ways to “put it on the ground” in the United States and abroad.

“RFI’s ambitious mission is to achieve broad acceptance of religious liberty as a fundamental human right, the cornerstone of a successful society, and a source of national and international security,” said Farr. “We are grateful for this new office and expect it to be an excellent platform from which to pursue our vision of securing religious freedom for everyone, everywhere.”
