The 2022 International Ministerial Conference on Freedom of Religion or Belief was hosted by the United Kingdom from July 5-7, with the goal of urging “increased global action on Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) for all.” The Religious Freedom Institute (RFI) made significant contributions to the Ministerial. RFI leadership, staff, and fellows spoke during the following events and sessions:
Tuesday, July 5th
RFI President Tom Farr spoke on the opening plenary panel titled, “Promoting FoRB in the Face of Global Challenges” (watch video).
Wednesday, July 6th
RFI hosted a side event titled, “Advancing International Religious Freedom in the Special Relationship: A Transatlantic Conversation,” which included remarks from RFI President Tom Farr and former RFI Senior Fellow Rehman Chisti.
RFI’s Jeremy Barker spoke at a side event hosted by the Coalition for Religious Equality and Inclusive Development titled, “Religious Diversity in Humanitarian Settings.”
Student participants in RFI’s Statesmanship and Religious Freedom Seminar, Lizzie Bonds and Brooke Hatcher, spoke on a panel event with youth activists titled, “Promotion: Engaging the Next Generation” (watch video).
Thursday, July 7th
RFI hosted a side event titled, “Building on Positive Developments in the Middle East and North Africa: Acknowledging Progress on Freedom of Religion or Belief and Identifying Further Steps and Opportunities,” featuring RFI President Tom Farr, Lena Abboud of RFI’s Middle East Action Team, and RFI Senior Fellow Salah Ali.
