“By our nature we desire to know the truth about an order of reality and meaning that is greater than ourselves.”
Lesson 1 examines how religion and the right to its free exercise are rooted in human nature. By our nature we desire to know the truth about an order of reality and meaning that is greater than ourselves. We are hard wired – obliged by our consciences – to orient our lives to that truth once it is realized. Therefore, to repress religion and its free exercise or to coerce any person to deny the dictates of conscience is to assault the essence of what it means to be human.
